Use of free productivity software applications such as Google Docs and OpenOffice remains low, while Microsoft Office is in use by over 50% of adult U.S. internet users, with no signs of declining popularity.
That's according to research published on 14 November by US firm, ClickStream Technologies. The company provides technology usage metrics to major software and hardware developers.
Of all free productivity applications observed, OpenOffice was the most popular (5% of all users) and also had the heaviest and highest frequency of use among free apps (average of 548 clicks and 8.7 days use per user).
Google Docs was the 2nd most popular free productivity app (1% of users) but had the lightest use of all productivity apps (average of 40 actions performed) and the fewest average days used during the 6-month research period.
A results table is included within the Clickstream media release.
