Crash! It's the Resilient City

Post peak oil, new technologies will drive the sixth wave of urban development, based on sustainability and productivity principles.

That's the view of Dr Peter Newman, Professor of Sustainability at Curtain University in Perth, whose book, The Resilient City, outlines the technological basis of urban growth, and finds the roots of the sub-prime mortgage crash deeply embedded in the transport economics of the scattered, outlying suburbs ringing western cities.

Hear or read his analysis and his prescription for a sustainable productive urban renewal at Ockham's Razor, ABC Radio National.

The Resilient City is published by Island Press.
